Welcome to the home of 'Ladybarn' Golden Retrievers.
We
have been owned by Golden Retrievers since 1984 and currently live
in East London with our Golden Retriever boys.
All of our dogs
live in the house and have always done so; they are first and
foremost family pets and Show Dogs second.
Many years ago my
Grandad and my Uncle were involved in showing and breeding Staffies
and my love of dogs goes back many years. When I was growing up I
was allowed to walk the dogs in Ladybarn Park in Manchester. I have
retained my love for Staffies, but I was attracted to the wonderful
nature, bidability and willingness to please of this fabulous Golden
Retriever breed.
It was not until
after I was married that we got our first dog, Honey. My uncle said
that I now had my very own ‘Ladybarn Londoner’; hence my affix ‘Ladybarn’.
The name holds very special memories for me.
I started out
competing with Honey in Obedience in the 1980’s and started showing
in 2000. I also owned 2 girls with their Kennel Club Good Citizen
Silver Awards (Flaxen and Custy).
Since that time I
have enjoyed a lot of fun and some success at Open and Championship
show levels and have also had the privilege of judging at Open Show
level.

approved ladies and has produced some super puppies; please contact
me for further details.
Spirit was born a few weeks after the death of my beloved Dad.
At the time I had no plans to have another puppy, but this just
felt ‘right’ at the time. In fact, he was almost 6 weeks old
before I finally made up my mind.
He was born the day before what would have been my Dad’s
birthday and was named in his memory.
He is the complete opposite of Gunner and is a real livewire. He
is a very loving boy and a real character with his funny little
ways.
His favourite pastime is watching for the squirrel which visits
our garden.
Spirit has only been lightly shown this year because of family
commitments although he was qualified again this year for Crufts,
but
he had no clothes so could not go.
He has delighted me since puppyhood by winning several Best
Puppy awards and 1st to 5th places at Championship shows. I am
thrilled with his success in the ring and he will be back out
soon.
He
has produced some lovely puppies and some photos can be seen by clicking
on the pawprint.

Gunner is the first male dog I have ever owned. I bought him because
of my interest in showing.
He is the most loving boy with the sweetest nature and all
who know him adore him; especially my niece, Scarlett. He has
the most amazing temperament and the most loving ways; a real ‘twonk’.
Gunner has only been shown once this year due to him having no
clothes.
He is a real ‘showman’ and loves an outing. To see his recent achievements,
take a look at the show results page.
My extra special boy.

Memories of Honey
9th
July 1984 – 27th December 1998
Honey was the
first dog I ever owned. As a child I always wanted a dog but
had to wait until I was married to actually have one.
I had a
love of Staffies from my Grandad, but we fell in love with the
Golden Retriever. She had a wonderful nature and was a constant
shadow to my children. She would often be found lying at their
side, looking very longingly at their biscuits or chocolate
buttons.
There was even a time when I couldn’t find her, I
searched the house and garden and was getting frantic; she was
safely tucked up in my son’s bed with the covers pulled up fast
asleep…………………
We
had lots of fun with her at obedience classes and made many new
friends in the canine world.
Honey lived until she was 14 ˝ and
was missed by all who knew her.
Memories of Custy
11th December 1994 – August 2003
Custy came to us at the age of 4 ˝ following the death of
Honey.
In time she aroused my interest in showing and so it began. We
had some fun at Open shows and I then bought my first boy
(Gunner) for showing. Custy became a role model for Gunner and
taught him how to behave.
Custy lived until she was 8 ˝ and was then given sleep. She was
the kindest, sweetest, most gentle girl we have ever known, and
so we were initiated into the Golden Retriever world. She was
the only dog I knew who could bark with her mouth closed!

In December 2008, Gunner at almost 9 years of age, has won the SWECA Veteran of the Year 2008 award.
He won the SWECA Dog of the Year
award when he was a youngster and then he represented the club in the
Southern Supermatch where he was awarded 4th Best In Show. To come back as a Veteran and win again was a dream come true – my
special boy.

Memories of Flaxen
Flaxen was my ‘obedience girl’.
She was exceptionally clever
and very stubborn and picked up things very quickly. She adored
my Honey.
She could do a perfect
‘recall’, but was slow to get up off her bottom. The first
time I entered her in a competition, she was up immediately and
came running towards me. However, she kept going; through 2
rings and over a field - never again!!!!!!!
She was also the muckiest dog
I have ever owned; all she wanted was to get dirty and muddy and
splash in the puddles - the bigger - the better.
She was a sweet and loving
girl.
A bit of Fun!
